desi macbeth

i had heard a lot good about this movie from a lot of people with an appetite for unconventional films. i am myself a person of charms and off-beat cinema.

wondering i was, all throughout... how could you enact a shakespeare in hindi??? i laid my hands on OMKAARA... fell in love in love with "langda tyagi'z" character. he had so much of substance. moved the screen single-handed(read legged).

i did pull the threads together. the common link was vishal bhardwaj. it's his wiki.

sunday evening was really cranky. i called up my movie-guy. asked for the ninth season of F-R-I-E-N-D-S... dude didn't have it. i spotted "MAQBOOL" on one of the shelves. BANG-on. picked it.
NO REGRETS!!!

worth every single second.

i had a special reason to be impressed by this movie. it was once in primary school and once when i was in my college, that i was a performing Macbeth.
the performance @ school is the one i'd like to forget. i played Lady Macbeth. not the i was woman sexy, but because of my long hair and lack of opposite sex (to mine) there. disadvantages of long hair and studying in a boys' convent. i was nicknamed "bitch" ever after.

college was fun. we were game for the youth fest in SHIMOGA... i decided to be the prompter (keeping into consideration the fact that harprieth was playing Macbeth and fateh Duncan...).
it was the best thing that could ever happen to me. i still remember harpreith yelling in his sleep "hail, hail, hail to thee"...

back to MAQBOOL aka desi Macbeth... a story of lust, power, wisdom, seduction and reverberating self-punishment. a must watch !!!
